On Sunday, 17th November, Fighting Fitness Judo hosted one of our most exciting events of the year—a club team competition that brought together over 150 children, families, and friends in a celebration of judo, teamwork, and community spirit. The event, held at Woking Leisure Centre, wasn’t just about judo—it was about building character, fostering friendships, and creating lasting memories.
A Unique Team Format
The festival was structured around a unique team competition format. With four mats and four teams, each consisting of five members, the children competed not just for themselves but for their team’s collective success. Every match mattered, as each child’s win added to their team’s tally.
It wasn’t just about individual achievement—it was about working together, supporting each other, and rallying as a team. The cheers from teammates echoed through the hall, creating an atmosphere of encouragement and camaraderie.
Parents loved the format, too! Many commented on how the team dynamic added a fresh and exciting element, allowing the children to build strong bonds while demonstrating their skills on the mat.
More Than Just Judo
While the day was filled with thrilling judo matches, the real victories came off the mat. The children learned to overcome nerves, handle both wins and losses with grace, and support their teammates when they needed encouragement.
At Fighting Fitness Judo, we believe judo is about more than physical skill—it’s about fostering qualities like courage, resilience, friendship, and the “Black Belt Mindset”. The festival was a living example of these values in action.
Parents watched with pride as their children displayed not just the throws and techniques they’ve been learning in class, but also their determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The joy and energy in the room were contagious!
Throughout the day, we had children as young as five taking part (Bears) and all the way up to 16 years (Juniors).
A Day for the Community
This wasn’t just a win for our club—it was a win for the Woking community. Hosting the event at Woking Leisure Centre brought families together, strengthened community ties, and showcased our young athletes’ incredible talent and dedication.
Events like this highlight the importance of sport in building a healthier, happier community. They provide a space for children to stay active, learn important life skills, and connect with others in a positive and supportive environment.
The Importance of Festivals Like This
Our festivals give children the perfect platform to shine. It’s an opportunity to take the skills they’ve honed in class and put them into practice in a supportive and exciting setting. But more than that, it’s about learning life lessons—how to win with humility, lose with dignity, and always keep trying.
At Fighting Fitness Judo, we are committed to creating these opportunities for growth, not just as athletes, but as individuals who can carry these lessons into every aspect of their lives.
A Big Thank You
