It’s been a couple of weeks since our Festival event.
We have around 200 children take part at Woking leisure centre, and they test their skills against similar size, age and ability children.
There are winners and losers, but everyone gets a medal.
I’m always blown away by the day.
The courage the children show, the friendships & bonds I see forming.
It’s such an important day for all of the families that take part.
It’s a bit of a cop out using the parents words, but some of the messages I got say it better than I can…
“Thank you for your words of encouragement and support to M at the festival on the weekend. It helped us both enormously.
I’m proud he went back in and finished and he has taken the medal into school for show and tell.
He came home from school on Monday and got straight into his judo gear!
It’s so hard to teach resilience but I thought you pitched it perfectly. I also found your guidance to parents in your intro really good- it’s so easy to comfort them and to blame something- other child older, bigger etc and it was really helpful for you to guide us as to what to say.
I was really impressed with how the festival was run (and in particular liked that the refs had a coaching role too so the kids were still learning).
I should also add that Tony is great with the kids in Max’s weekly sessions. A great balance of fun, respect and learning.”
“You and Vince are absolutely amazing!!! Today was impeccably organised as always, and the camaraderie between the older boys was just brilliant. They were all having such a great time together, supporting and laughing with (and at!) each other. You should both be massively proud of what you have built. The kids are very lucky to be part of it.
H was delighted to win – beaming!!
I am so emotional to see them so happy – Just loving the experience, the friendships, the jokes, the healthy competition and feeling strong in body and mind. Having you and Vince as role models – don’t underestimate how much impact this has for boys of this age. This for me is what community means. Thanks for everything.”
“Watching H at the festival was amazing, in fact watching all of the children compete was. Seeing them put into practice what they are taught in there lessons every week and competing in such a good nature was lovely to see. We will definitely be at the next one. Loved every minute and I loved watching him. ?”
“Watching from a parents point of view was very nerve-wracking at first, but seeing how brave L was to be able to get on the mat for the first time and show off her skills she had learnt in lessons with Tony we began to relax a little and enjoy the morning. We are very proud of her and are looking forward to the next one! L is normally quite a shy girl so to see this side of her for us was amazing!
Thank you to everyone that made the festival happen ? xx”
“The festival was amazing! My family enjoyed to spend this morning watching it … G was delighted to see his progress compared to last year festival?”
